چکیده

A modular semilattice is a semilattice S in which w > a A ft implies that there exist i,jeS such that x > a. y > b and x A y = x A w. This is equivalent to modularity in a lattice and in the semilattice of ideals of the semilattice, and the condition implies the Kurosh-Ore replacement property for irreducible elements in a semilattice. The main results provide extensions of the classical characterizations of modular and distributive lattices by their sublattices: A semilattice S is^ modular if and only if each pair of elements of S has an upper bound in S and there is no retract of S isomorphic to the nonmodular five lattice. A semilattice is distributive if and only if it is modular and has no retract isomorphic to the nondistributive five lattice.

Representations of Distributive Semilattices by Dimension Groups, Regular Rings, C*-algebras, and Complemented Modular Lattices

We study the relationships among existing results about representations of distributive semilattices by ideals in dimension groups, von Neu-mann regular rings, C*-algebras, and complemented modular lattices. We prove additional representation results which exhibit further connections with the scattered literature on these diierent topics.

Solution to Problems of Schmidt and Quackenbush from 1974 and 1985: Tensor Products of Semilattices

If M is a finite complemented modular lattice with n atoms and D is a bounded distributive lattice, then the Priestley power M [D] is shown to be isomorphic to the poset of normal elements of Dn, thus solving a problem of E. T. Schmidt from 1974. It is shown that there exist a finite modular lattice A not having M4 as a sublattice and a finite modular lattice B such that A⊗B is not semimodular,...

Note on Priestley-style Duality for Distributive Meet-semilattices

We carry out a detailed comparison of the two topological dualities for distributive meet-semilattices studied by Celani [3] and by Bezhanishvili and Jansana [2]. We carry out such comparison, that was already sketched in [2], by defining the functors involved in the equivalence of both dual categories of distributive meet-semilattices.

Distributive Semilattices as Retracts of Ultraboolean Ones; Functorial Inverses without Adjunction

A 〈∨, 0〉-semilattice is ultraboolean, if it is a directed union of finite Boolean 〈∨, 0〉-semilattices. We prove that every distributive 〈∨, 0〉-semilattice is a retract of some ultraboolean 〈∨, 0〉-semilattice. This is established by proving that every finite distributive 〈∨, 0〉-semilattice is a retract of some finite Boolean 〈∨, 0〉-semilattice, and this in a functorial way. This result is, in tu...
